ISOM professors ranked among best in research productivity

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Frank L. Weyenberg Term Professor Dr. Kenny Cheng and William R. Hough Faculty Fellow Dr. Shubho Bandyopadhyay were ranked among the best in research productivity based on the Association for Information Systems Senior Scholars’ Basket of Journals.

The Association for Information Systems Senior Scholars’ Basket of Journals include the field’s six leading information systems journals—European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems and Management Information Systems Quarterly. The Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Management Information Systems Quarterly are considered the core three journals among the basket of six. The rankings, which reflect productivity from 2009 to 2011, have several divisions – papers appearing in core three journals, papers appearing in four journals (Management Information Systems Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems and Journal of the Association for Information Systems), and papers appearing in all six journals.

Dr. Cheng tied for 20th in the core 3 category, 29th in the four-journal category, and tied for 41st among six journals.

Dr. Bandyopadhyay tied for 16th in the core 3 category, 18th in the four-journal category, and tied for 26th among six journals.

Dr. Cheng’s and Dr. Bandyopadhyay’s contributions placed the Warrington College of Business Administration in the top 20 among all business schools worldwide in all three divisions. Warrington was 11th overall and 8th among U.S. publics in the core three journals category, 16th overall and 11th among U.S. publics in four journals, 15th overall and 11th among U.S. publics in six journals.

Dr. Cheng, who also serves as Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, teaches information technology strategy, electronic commerce and supply chain management, and object oriented analysis and design. His research interests focus on analyzing the impact of Internet technology on software development and marketing, and information systems policy issues, in particular, the national debate on network neutrality. Dr. Cheng earned a Bachelor of Science degree (1981) and MBA (1983) from National Chiao-Tung University (Taiwan). He earned a Master of Science in Business Administration (1988) and Ph.D. in Computers and Information Systems (1992) from the University of Rochester.

Shubho Bandyopadhyay

Dr. Bandyopadhyay joined the Warrington faculty in 2002 as an assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management and became an Associate Professor in 2010. Dr. Bandyopadhyay teaches courses in Business Database Design & Development and Advanced Business Design. He earned a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur, India) in 1991, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore, India) in 1993 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University.
