Heavener team finishes in fourth place in international case competition
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Esteban Arturo, Analia Davis, Laura Sandoval and Brittany Wood guided the Heavener School of Business to a fourth-place finish last week in the Alberta Not-For-Profit Case Competition at the Alberta School of Business in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Alberta Not-For-Profit Case Competition involved eight teams from the United States and Canada which were tasked with identifying and solving the challenges of one of Edmonton’s most established and influential not-for-profit organizations.
The teams had 38 hours to create their presentations, which were scored based on quality and creativity of proposed solution, quality of presentation and responses during Q&A session and utilization of industry specific knowledge among other criteria.
The eight teams were divided into two four-team pools for the preliminary round with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the finals. The Heavener School advanced from its pool along with the University of Alberta, the University of Manitoba and MacEwan University (Edmonton, Alberta) and the Asper School of Business from the University of Manitoba. The Asper School of Business won the competition, MacEwan finished in second place and the University of Alberta was third.
The fourth-place finish in Edmonton was the second impressive finish by the Heavener School in an international case competition in two weeks. A team of four Heavener students finished in third place in the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition on Feb. 17-22 at Concordia University in Montreal.
The Heavener School is next scheduled to compete in the Scotiabank International Case Competition on March 19-22 at the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario.
