DiMatteo hosts international conference

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dr. Larry A. DiMatteo, Huber Hurst Professor of Contract Law & Legal Studies in the Department of Management, hosted an international conference entitled “The Global Challenge of International Sales Law” at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center on November 11-12.

The conference’s main co-sponsors were the Warrington College of Business Administration and the Center for International Business Education & Research (CIBER). Other sponsoring organizations included the United Nations’ Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Institute for International Commercial Law, University of Florida Center for European Studies, and the Levin College of Law.

The conference was attended by the top scholars in the field, a representative from UNCITRAL, as well academics, legal practitioners, and students from a dozen states. Professors DiMatteo, Robert Emerson, and Virginia Maurer of the Department of Management & Legal Studies presented papers at the conference.
Presenters came from all the world’s major legal systems including the common law (U.S., United Kingdom, Australia), civil law (Western and Central Europe, Southeastern Europe, Nordic countries, Israel), socialist-market (People’s Republic of China), Islamic (Egypt), and mixed (South Africa). In all, presenters and attendees represented 25 countries and six continents.

Cambridge University Press has been contracted for the publication of a book of the same title to be edited by Professor DiMatteo.

Dr. DiMatteo has been a professor at Warrington since 1999. He previously instructed at the University of Miami. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University at Buffalo, Juris Doctorate from Cornell University, Masters of Law from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Business and Commercial Law from Monash University in Australia.
