Information Systems researchers elevate Warrington into top 10 global programs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – John B. Higdon Eminent Scholar Chair Dr. Hsing K. (Kenny) Cheng, Susan Cameron Professor Dr. Subhajyoti (Shubho) Bandyopadhyay and Emeritus Professor Dr. Gary J. Koehler were recognized for exceptional research productivity based on the Association for Information Systems Senior Scholars’ Basket of Journals.

The contributions of these scholars placed the Warrington College of Business Administration 10th worldwide and ninth among U.S. publics in the top three information systems journal category. The rankings reflect productivity from 2010 to 2012.

“We have a small department compared with our peer schools,” Dr. Cheng said. “The latest high ranking of our faculty’s research productivity speaks volume of our faculty’s extraordinary accomplishment.”

Dr. Hsing (Kenny) Cheng was recognized as one of Information Systems’ most productive researchers in the latest edition of the Association for Information Systems Senior Scholars’ Basket of Journals.

The Association for Information Systems Senior Scholars’ Basket of Journals include the field’s six leading information systems journals—European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems and Management Information Systems Quarterly. Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Management Information Systems Quarterly are considered the core three journals among the basket of six.

Dr. Cheng was ranked 16th, Dr. Bandyopadhyay was tied for 44th, and Dr. Koehler was tied for 87th in the core 3 category. Dr. Cheng, who also serves as Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, teaches information technology strategy, electronic commerce and supply chain management, and object oriented analysis and design. His research interests focus on analyzing the impact of Internet technology on software development and marketing, and information systems policy issues, in particular, the national debate on network neutrality. Dr. Cheng earned a Bachelor of Science degree (1981) and MBA (1983) from National Chiao-Tung University (Taiwan). He earned a Master of Science in Business Administration (1988) and Ph.D. in Computers and Information Systems (1992) from the University of Rochester.

Dr. Bandyopadhyay joined the Warrington faculty in 2002 as an assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management and became an Associate Professor in 2010.  He has received numerous research grants from Warrington and the University of Florida, and was the recipient of Warrington’s Judy Fisher Teaching with Technology Award recognizing the professor whose teaching best exemplified the use of technology over the past year. Dr. Bandyopadhyay teaches courses in Business Database Design & Development and Advanced Business Design. He earned a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur, India) in 1991, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore, India) in 1993 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University.

Dr. Koehler was a member of Warrington’s faculty from 1974 to 1978 before entering the private sector and co-founding Micro Data Base Systems, Inc., in 1979. After serving as the company’s Chief Executive Officer for six years, Dr. Koehler rejoined the Warrington faculty in 1987. His recent teaching has been in business objects, quantum computing, Java, C#, support vector machines, genetic algorithm theory and e-commerce. Dr. Koehler received three academic degrees from Purdue University—Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (1969), Master of Science in Physiology (1970) and a Ph.D. in Management Science (1973).
