Judy Fisher Award winners announced

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—The winners of the 2008 Judy Fisher Teaching with Technology Award have been named: Warrington College of Business Administration professors Sanford Berg and Subhajyoti Bandyopadhyay, who were chosen for their innovative use of technologies such as wikis, podcasts, and email newsletters.

Berg is a UF Distinguished Service Professor in Economics and Distinguished Teaching Scholar. In addition, he is director of Water Studies for the Public Utility Research Center (PURC). Professor Berg has received numerous teaching awards over his long career at UF, including three in Spring 2008 alone, two of which were by popular vote of UF MBA students.

Bandyopadhyay is an assistant professor in the College’s Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, and has done groundbreaking research in the area of net neutrality. Other areas of his research interests include E-commerce strategies and information systems policy issues, from an economics perspective. He teaches graduate-level courses in Database Systems and Systems Analysis Design.

The Judy Fisher Teaching with Technology Award was established in memory of Judy Fisher, Ph.D. She joined the faculty in January 2001 as an Instructional Technologist, and was the first person ever employed by Warrington to bridge the gap between the faculty and the technology staff. As a unit highly dependent on advanced technologies, Fisher’s background (a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology, coupled with more than 25 years of business consulting in instructional design) enabled her to have a profound effect on teaching with technology. The College is proud to honor Fisher, who passed away in July 2007, and her many contributions to our teaching and learning environment, through this annual award.
