Warrington management professor recipient of distinguished early career contributions award
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dr. Brian Swider, Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business, is the recipient of the 2019 Early Career Achievement Award from the Academy of Management Human Resources Division.
The Early Career Achievement Award “recognizes the early career achievements of HR scholars” and is “given to an individual who makes distinguished contributions during the early-to mid-career state (defined as within 7 years of receiving the Ph.D.).”
Swider is the second recipient of the award from Warrington, with Lanzillotti-McKethan Eminent Scholar Chair Dr. Mo Wang receiving the award in 2011.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive this award,” Swider said. “The previous winners are all amazing scholars who continue to do important and impactful research. Although it’s unlikely, I hope I can match their productivity in the years to come.”
Swider has produced more than 15 refereed publications and presented more than 20 papers at conferences across the United States, Canada and China. His research is focused on human resources, employee behavior and employee performance. Swider is the Associate Editor of Human Resources Management and serves on the editorial board of Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes and Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology.
Swider’s contributions to the management field go beyond research. He also teaches courses in organizational behavior and organizational staffing to students in Warrington’s specialized master’s programs. He previously taught Managing Human Resources: Analytics and Decision Making and Managing Human Resources in a Regulated Environment at the Georgia Institute of Technology as well as Managing Human Resources at Texas A&M University.
He received the Brady Family Award for Faculty Research Excellence in 2017 and the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Research by a Doctoral Student in 2011, in addition to numerous research grants.
Swider received his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and his BSBA from the Warrington College of Business.
