DiMatteo wins Best Paper Award

Gainesville, Fla. – Larry A. DiMatteo, Huber Hurst Professor of Contract Law & Legal Studies, was recently granted the “2008 Best Paper Award” by the Southeastern Academy of Legal Studies in Business (SEALSB). DiMatteo, a professor in Warrington’s Department of Management and its former chair, was named author of the year’s best paper at the SEALSB annual meeting in Atlanta, on November 8, 2008.

The winning paper, co-authored with Samuel Flaks (a third-year law student at Harvard Law School), is entitled “Conservative Legal Realism: Nathan Isaacs, Jewish Law, and Modern Legal Theory.” The paper uses archival records from the Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School’s Special Collections, as well as the Jewish National Archives in Cincinnati, to analyze a strain of 1930s legal realism that the authors label as “conservative legal realism.” This brand of legal realism is best reflected in the modern law and economics movement.

The SEALSB is a professional association of legal studies professors from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
