Heavener students win Johnson & Johnson National Case Competition

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A team of five students from the Heavener School of Business at the Warrington College of Business Administration earned first place in the 2012 Johnson & Johnson National Case Competition on March 30 at the company’s headquarters in New Brunswick, N.J.

Eileen Cowdery (senior, marketing), Chris Howard (junior, finance), Jessica Krutchik (sophomore, marketing), Ali Thompson (junior, finance) and Mike Treiser (junior, economics) successfully represented Heavener and outlasted nine universities from across the country. The team earned $3,000 for the victory.

The Johnson & Johnson Business Case Competition is a national competition that brings together undergraduate business students from around the country and tests their abilities in real-world situations. Strategic thinking, economic reasoning, financial analysis and marketing are all tested as the teams present proposals for approval by Johnson & Johnson financial officers.

The teams were tasked with an issue regarding the beauty products market and whether Johnson & Johnson should enter into a licensing agreement or purchase a European company that manufactures and sells all-natural products. Teams examined financial records and data, constructed a marketing plan for their desired approach and tailored a long-term strategy for the initiative.
