ISOM professor’s work selected as finalist for INFORMS best paper award
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – American Economic Institutions Professor Dr. Praveen A. Pathak’s paper “The Impact of Automation of Systems on Medical Errors: Evidence from Field Research” was chosen as a finalist in the INFORMS-Industry Studies Association’s Best Paper Competition.
The paper, co-authored by Dr. Ravi Aron, Assistant Professor at The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School; Dr. Shantanu Dutta, Chair in Marketing at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California; and Dr. Ramkumar Janakiraman, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Mays Business School at Texas A&M University, appeared in the September 2011 issue of Information Systems Research.
Dr. Pathak’s paper was one of only five finalists selected from more than 800 eligible papers published in 11 INFORMS (The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) journals in 2011. Dr. Pathak’s paper met and exceeded the criteria set by INFORMS-ISA including level of analysis, field research and analytical modeling/statistical analysis.
Dr. Pathak has been a professor at the Warrington College of Business Administration since 2001. His research interests involve information retrieval, web mining, offshore outsourcing of services and use of information and communication technologies in healthcare delivery and management.
Dr. Pathak earned a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1987, an MBA in Information Systems and Finance from the Indian Institute of Management in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Systems from the University of Michigan in 2000.
