Poe Center Director Virginia Maurer receives illustrious award

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Huber Hurst Professor of Business Law and Legal Studies Virginia Maurer was conferred the Kay Duffy Memorial Award by the Academy of Legal Studies in Business at their annual meeting in August in Richmond, Va.

The award is bestowed intermittently upon individuals who have demonstrated distinguished service throughout their careers.

Professor Maurer is the Director of the Elizabeth P. and William F. Poe, Sr. Center for Business Ethics, Education and Research and has been a member of the Warrington faculty since 1980. Her record of distinguished service includes President of the Academy, Editor-in-Chief of its premier peer reviewed journal, The American Business Law Journal, liaison to The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International and member of the Executive Committee of the Academy for more than a dozen years.

At the Warrington College of Business Administration, Maurer has served as Interim Director of the MBA Program, Chair of the Department of Management and chair of numerous committees, including the MBA program committee and the Dean’s Advisory Committee. She founded the prestigious Huber Hurst Research Seminar and has provided significant service to the University many years. Professor Maurer is the author of more than 30 books, refereed journal articles and is a long-time instructor in the MBA and the Thomas S. Johnson Master of Entrepreneurship programs.

The Academy of Legal Studies in Business is the premier academic organization for research and teaching in business law, legal studies and related disciplines. Founded in 1924, it is one of the oldest and most established organizations of the business disciplines.
