UF MBA wins Florida Intercollegiate Business Case Competition

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – UF MBA at the Hough Graduate School of Business won the Florida Intercollegiate Case Competition Feb. 9-11 at the University of South Florida.

UF MBA’s winning team of John Atkinson, Denna Bettini, Brad Casey and Jennifer Gale won $10,000. UF MBA bested teams from South Florida, Florida International, Florida State and Miami.

“Our team stood out from the rest because they had a great idea, it was fully developed and very well presented,” said Dr. Sean Limon, Communication Lecturer at the Warrington College of Business Administration. “It was the best team presentation I’ve ever seen.”

The case presented to the teams was about national restaurant chain Popeyes Louisiana Chicken, and how Popeyes could double in size in five years. The teams had approximately 20 hours to identify and formulate a strategy, then present their findings to Popeyes executives.

This year’s victory marks the third time UF MBA has won the Intercollegiate Cup since it first competed in the event in 2007. UF MBA also won the competition in 2008 and 2010.

The Florida Intercollegiate Business Case Competition brings together elite graduate business students from Florida’s top universities for this annual competition offering participants terrific networking opportunities and the honor of representing their respective universities at a prestigious competition.
