Leticia Lopez Tiznado and Frederique Whitaker earn awards

Warrington undergraduates earn awards from International Center

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Leticia Lopez Tiznado and Frederique Whitaker were recipients of the University of Florida’s International Center Outstanding Student Awards at the 17th Annual International Student Academic Awards Ceremony held Nov. 17.

Lopez Tiznado is a senior economics major with a concentration in Political Science and certification in International Relations. A native of Mexico, Lopez Tiznado studied for two years at The United World College of the Adriatic in Duino, Italy before enrolling at UF. She is a United World College Scholar and a member of Florida Leadership Academy and has been involved in the ONE campaign, which fights against poverty, the Mexican-­American Student Association (MASA) and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). Lopez Tiznado, who interned at the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C. this past summer, plans to study abroad and complete her degree at the Science Po University in Paris.

Lopez Tiznado also received the Diane Fisher Service Scholarship Award. This award is given to students who show exemplary service to the University of Florida and to the Gainesville community. In addition to her academic exploits, Lopez Tiznado volunteers at St. Francis House, which assists Gainesville’s homeless and hungry, rallied for agricultural workers’ rights, participated in fundraising efforts for the Hispanic scholarship fund and taught financial literacy in elementary schools.

Whitaker is a senior business administration (management) major. A native of France, Whitaker studied for two years at SKEMA Business School in Nice, France, where she was the school’s valedictorian. She is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and has served as a Teaching Assistant at Warrington. Whitaker has interned at Argeville Inc. (Cannes, France) and Monaco Foods SAM (Monaco) among other companies.
