John Howard (MBA ’02) | August 2014

John (MBA 2002) was promoted to Vice President of Finance at Horseshoe Casino-Cincinnati. He will have oversight for the accounting, cashiering, count room, risk/safety, and regulatory compliance departments, as well as directing all financial planning, analysis and reporting activities for Horseshoe Cincinnati. He had served as Interim VP of Finance since February of  2014.

Louis Garcia (BSAdv ’94, MEd ’97, MSE ’05) | August 2014

Louis (BSAdv 1994, MEd 1997, MSE 2005) has been Chief Executive Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Tallahassee for five years. Recently, his agency has won numerous local and national awards, including 2014 National Small Agency of the Year, 2014 National Board of Directors of the Year, and The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce’s Non-Profit Agency of the Year. Louis sits on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Leadership Council, and chairs the national Marketing and Communications Committee.

Tom Surrency (BSBA ’60) | July 2014

Tom (BSBA 1960) spent 36 years working in international business with Celanese Corporation. Upon his retirement in 1997, he set up a consulting and trading operation establishing sourcing and contacts between U.S. firms and Asia. Tom’s granddaughter graduated from UF in 2012, and he said he “would not trade my four years at UF for anything. Go Gators!”

Bethann Johnston (BSBA ’83) | July 2014

Bethann (BSBA 1983) was promoted to Managing Director and Product Executive in the Global Transaction Services division at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Her responsibilities include designing and delivering treasury management services for specialized industries. Bethann lives in Atlanta with her husband, Daniel Berger, and their children, Jonathan and Elaine.

Anthony Ballo (BSBA ’91, MS-ISOM ’08) | July 2014

Anthony (BSBA 1991, MS-ISOM 2008) is celebrating 20 years of IT experience in catalog/retail, manufacturing and higher education. He was recently promoted to Manager, Systems and Programming for the Enrollment Management division at the University of New Mexico. He previously served as an IT Applications Systems Specialist for the Data Warehouse Team at UNM. Go Gators!

Robert Peterson (BSME ’94, MBA ’96) | July 2014

Occidental Petroleum Corporation named Robert (BSME 1994, MBA 1996) president of its wholly owned subsidiary Occidental Chemical Corporation (OxyChem). An 18-year veteran of OxyChem, Robert has held increasingly senior positions in manufacturing, sales and marketing. He served as Vice President, Vinyls, from 2006 through 2008, before his promotion to his current position.

Sarah Anderson (BSAc ’00, MAcc ’01) and Jason Natt (MAcc ’97) | July 2014

Sarah (BSAc 2000, MAcc 2001) and Jason (MAcc 1997) were admitted into PwC’s partnership effective July 1. Sarah, a partner in the Federal Tax Services practice, has more than 13 years of experience in international assignment services and business compliance services. Jason, an assurance partner in the Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory Services practice, focuses on assisting clients with technical accounting and SEC reporting matters related to non-recurring transactions. They both work in PwC’s Greater Atlanta market.

Kyle Kaplan (BSBA ’04) | July 2014

Kyle (BSBA 2004) is the new MBA Program Director and Assistant Professor of Business Law and Management at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Additionally, Kyle is the owner and CEO of PLAYRITE, LLC, the premier sports and recreation construction company in Tennessee.

Sarah Dethomasis (BS ’09, MSM ’10) | July 2014

Sarah (BS 2009, MSM 2010) recently joined the executive team of OFS Retail, an Atlanta-based e-commerce company, as Vice President of Marketing in June. She joins the OFS Retail team with a depth of experience in marketing and technology through her work leading social media and digital strategy at Oracle for clients like Apple, Intel, Turner Entertainment Networks, and NBC Sports. Sarah also recently finished her first semester as a UF Faculty member teaching a graduate course in social media

Patrick Myers (MBA ’11) | July 2014

Patrick (MBA 2011) was promoted from Chief Financial Officer to Chief Executive Officer at HealthCare Connection of Tampa in January. He has also been invited to join The Salvation Army Advisory Board.
