UF MBA Director Sevilla named Chairman of GMAC Board

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Assistant Dean and Director of UF MBA Programs Alex Sevilla has been elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Graduate Management Admission Council.

The GMAC is a non-profit organization of leading graduate business schools around the world. GMAC, which is the owner and administrator of the GMAT exam, meets the needs of business schools and students through a wide array of products, services and programs. It serves as a primary resource of research and information about quality graduate management education.

“It is truly an honor to be appointed as chairman of the GMAC board of directors for the 2010-11 year,” Sevilla said. “The Council’s deep commitment to the advancement of graduate business education around the world makes a measurable positive impact on business schools, their students and the corporations they serve. I am eager to continue to collaborate with my fellow board members and GMAC leadership to define the Council’s strategic goals and help drive these innovative efforts forward for all key stakeholders. “

Sevilla will serve as chairman through June 2011. He has served on the board of directors since 2009 and on the GMAC Advisory Council in 2005-2006.

Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the GMAC. “I am very pleased that he is leading our board at this important point in the Council’s history.”

Under Sevilla’s direction, UF MBA has been ranked in the top 20 among public business schools by U.S. News & World Report for five consecutive years. The Traditional MBA Program has seen a 40-percent increase in enrollment since 2005 and 98-percent growth in its Working Professional Programs since 2003. UF MBA’s Internet Program was ranked as one of the world’s two best by The Economist in 2010.

Sevilla has been with UF MBA for more than a decade. He began as the Associate Director of Career Services in December 1998 then became the Director of MBA Student Services in 1999. He was chosen as Director of UF MBA Programs in 2003 and was named Assistant Dean in 2006.

Before coming to UF, Sevilla served as associate director of graduate business programs at the University of Miami. He received his bachelor’s degree and MBA from Miami where he focused on marketing and management.
