Uniting for excellence | JP Robinson

Justin “JP” Robinson has always loved working with people. From his time as an undergraduate student at the University of Florida to his time as a university employee, he knew that working with others was what he wanted to do in his career.

After learning about UF MBA’s focus on team building and leadership development, Robinson knew continuing his education at UF was the right path for him.

“UF is home for me,” said Robinson, who completed his 2019 summer internship at ExxonMobil. “It’s just serendipitous that it happens to be the best university in the state of Florida, the best MBA program in the state of Florida, and among the top 10 public [universities] in the country.”

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Robinson said that being a part of the Warrington community has driven his early success in the UF MBA Full-Time program.

“[At Warrington] it is definitely a family,” he said. “I do not feel excluded, and I don’t feel ostracized from any activity or opportunity that’s within this program.”

Among the many opportunities available at Warrington, Robinson decided that the role of president of the Black Business Student Association was the right one for him. He wanted to take on the position because he saw the need to provide an organization that really listened to the needs of its members and deliver resources they could use to be successful.

“Students of color come in a variety of colors and have a variety of needs,” he said. “I wanted to be able to empower students [in the organization] and help them reach their goals.”

Robinson said being involved in the Black Business Student Association has provided him one of the best learning experiences.

“The way I’ve benefitted from the Black Business Student Association is really by learning from others,” he said. “Talking to people within the program, and those not in the program, and learning from those experiences has taught me how to come up with creative solutions for unique challenges.”
