Fisher School’s undergraduate and master’s programs among nation’s top 10 publics

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Fisher School of Accounting at the Warrington College of Business Administration had its undergraduate and master’s programs both rank eighth among U.S. public accounting programs in Public Accounting Report’s (PAR) 33^rd Annual Survey of Accounting Professors.

The Fisher School’s doctoral program ranked 16^th among U.S. publics as well.

“We appreciate the recognition by our peers of the Fisher School’s students, faculty and programs,” said J. Roy Duggan Professor and Fisher School Director Dr. Gary McGill. “We’re proud of the efforts of our students, faculty, staff, and many alumni and friends that make the Fisher School a special place.”

The Fisher School also fared well against programs with similar faculty sizes. The Fisher School’s undergraduate and master’s programs both ranked third overall among programs with 16 to 21 full-time accounting faculty.

According to Dr. McGill, “the Fisher School has a relatively small faculty, especially compared with our national peers, yet they are a very productive group in terms of both research output and efficiency and effectiveness in educating our students.”

In addition to its impressive national rankings, the Fisher School remained PAR’s No. 1-ranked accounting program in the state of Florida. The Fisher School was the only accounting program from Florida recognized in the top 25 of the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral rankings.

The Fisher School celebrated another banner year in 2014 as its students distinguished themselves among their peers nationwide. Fisher first-time candidates who took the CPA Exam scored an overall passing rate of 77 percent—12^th in the nation among the 262 large academic institutions— for all parts of the exam attempted during 2013. Also, 98 percent of Fisher’s graduates seeking employment accepted jobs by graduation, including positions at the world’s top international public accounting firms.

Public Accounting Report’s (PAR) 33^rd Annual Survey of Accounting Professors is the nation’s only survey that allows accounting professors to rank the nation’s best accounting programs. Hundreds of accounting professors from nearly 200 U.S. colleges and universities participated in the 2014 survey.
