GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dr. Aditi Mukherjee, a Lecturer in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at the Warrington College of Business Administration, was named the recipient of the 2013 Judy Fisher Teaching with Technology Award.

The award is given annually to the Warrington professor whose teaching best exemplified the use of technology over the past year.

“As an instructor, it is my goal that students in my class acquire information and skills that they will retain long after the final exams, and that serve them well in their careers,” Dr. Mukherjee said. “The technology that I employ helps me do this in a manner that is both engaging and effective, while freeing up classroom time for student interactions and feedback on their class performance.”

Dr. Mukherjee was recognized for her effective teaching of Introduction to Information Technology (ISM 3013). The course is designed to give students a working knowledge of technology’s uses in different business environments and to provide them with certifiable IT skills.

All of Dr. Mukherjee’s students over the past year earned the MOS: Microsoft Office Excel and MOS: Microsoft Office Access certifications by passing the corresponding exams. She said it was her goal to show how effective the newest technologies could be in the classroom.

Dr. Mukherjee made extensive use of Sakai, an online course management system used by UF, to successfully administer and communicate with the large class and deliver basic content to the students. She also created short video tutorials using Camtasia Studio to teach them basic IT skills.

“Aditi excels in using technology smartly and seamlessly with traditional instruction. It truly leverages the best out of both instructional approaches,” said City Furniture Professor Dr. Deb Mitra, who served on the College’s Teaching Committee that bestows the Judy Fisher Award. “The committee was really impressed with the number of different tools that Aditi applies, which all build on the overall student experience. Indeed, the decision was unanimous.”

The Judy Fisher Teaching with Technology Award helps encourage the College to continually innovate in the field of teaching with technology. The award was established in memory of Judy Fisher, Ph.D. She joined the faculty in January 2001 as an Instructional Technologist and was the first person ever employed by Warrington to bridge the gap between the faculty and technology staff. As a unit highly dependent on advanced technologies, Fisher’s background (a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology, coupled with more than 25 years of business consulting in instructional design) enabled her to have a profound effect on teaching with technology. The College is proud to honor Fisher, who passed away in July 2007, and her many contributions to the teaching and learning environment through this annual award.
