Garcia (MBA 2014) was recently reappointed to the Florida Virtual School Board of Trustees by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Garcia began her career in education as a 2009 Teach for America Corps member in Houston, Texas. She was a founding staff member at YES Prep West, in one of the country’s leading transformational charter school systems. Upon moving to Florida in 2011, she worked as a classroom teacher in an all-boys magnet choice school in Hillsborough County. She continued her teaching career as a middle school math teacher serving students in the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
In addition to working with students and families within school communities, Garcia has experience as a grassroots education policy organizer with StudentsFirst. At StudentsFirst, in collaboration with the Foundation for Florida’s Future and the Urban League, she connected with parents and families throughout the state who were looking to improve the educational outcomes of their children.
Currently, Garcia serves on the Board of Directors of Frameworks of Tampa Bay, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing social-emotional learning skills to those who work with children and families. At Frameworks, she chairs the Research and Development committee, with a focus on products and program expansion.
Garcia is a Florida certified teacher and volunteers as a Catholic school teacher in the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
