Graduating Student Spotlight: Christian Chase
Christian Chase graduates from the Master of Science in Management (MSM) program this spring. He shares his thoughts on the MSM program and his future career plans.
Q: Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
Chase: “I grew up in South Florida where I attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. Growing up, you could either find me on a baseball field, at a speech and debate competition or playing the Pokémon Trading Card Game. For undergrad, I graduated last year from UF with degrees in mathematics and statistics and a minor in communications.”
Q: What are your best memories from the MSM program?
Chase: “My favorite moments in the MSM program were the group projects we got to work on. Coming from a STEM background, there wasn’t a lot of time to work with others. MSM allowed me to meet some amazing people and work on very cool projects that would teach us a lot for our future careers. My advising meetings with Houston Bailey were also a great highlight.”
Q: What are you doing after graduation from the MSM program?
Chase: “As of now, I currently work for the Chicago White Sox in Player Development. I am located out of Birmingham, where I help run the PD operations for the Birmingham Barons, their AA affiliate. My day to day is a lot of fun in the clubhouse, ranging from video to scouting to stat management. In the fall, I’ll be leaving to attend Vanderbilt Law School, where I will pursue my ultimate degree.”
Q: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Chase: “Five years from now, I see myself as a lawyer. Using the skills I learned from MSM and undergrad at UF, I plan on entering into a field of law that utilizes business, math and logic.” Some point after I get my feet wet, I’ll chase my ultimate dream of becoming an MLB GM, where I feel all my schooling and preparation has led to.”
Q: Any advice for future MSM students?
Chase: “My advice to MSM students is to follow your passions to a fault and do what you love, regardless of any noise. At the end of the day, what we do and how we carry ourselves defines a large portion of who we are — and if you do things that make you happy, it’ll show in your work and approach to life.”
Q: Tell us a cool fact about you.
Chase: “A fun fact about me is that in 2019 I was a top 100 Pokémon TCG Player in the world, where I earned an invitation to compete in the World Championships in London this past August.”
