MIB Student Spotlight: Milan Gandhi

Gandhi is a graduate student in the Master of International Business program at the University of Florida. After completing the program, he plans to pursue roles in the energy and oil industries.

 Q: Tell us about yourself.

Gandhi: I am a 28-year-old graduate student in the Master of International Business (MIB) program at the University of Florida. I was born and raised in Tampa and come from a traditional Gujarati Indian household, which has given me a diverse perspective and a strong connection to my community. Outside of academics, I enjoy outdoor activities like biking, kayaking, and exploring new cities, which align with my love for learning and growth. As a Hough Ambassador, I am passionate about building connections between students, alumni, and faculty to foster an interconnected community. Furthermore, I have always been very fond of the Latin & Hispanic communities due to their cultural traditions and joyful energy they bring!

 Q: What was your undergraduate major, and why did you decide to pursue your MIB?

Gandhi: I majored in Organizational Management because it provided me with a solid foundation in leadership & project management skills. I chose the MIB program because it offered the opportunity to deepen my understanding of global markets and international business strategies. The program’s emphasis on cultural diversity and practical application was particularly appealing to me.

 Q: What is your favorite thing about the online MIB program?

Gandhi: The best thing about the MIB program is its focus on creating globally minded professionals. The program’s collaborative projects and multicultural environment resonate deeply with my Gujarati heritage, where adaptability and a global perspective are highly valued. I’ve particularly enjoyed learning alongside peers from diverse backgrounds, which has broadened my understanding of how cultural nuances influence business strategies.

Q: How was your Global Immersion Experience (GIE)?

Gandhi: My GIE experience was one of the highlights of my time in the MIB program. Traveling to my city, Milan (Italy), and learning about the business environment there was eye-opening. It was an excellent opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, understand global business practices, and connect with peers in a meaningful way. The experience taught me the importance of resilience, cross-cultural communication, and innovation in driving global business success.

Q: What are your future goals and plans?

Gandhi:I am currently applying to roles in the energy and oil industries, aiming to contribute to companies that tackle some of the most critical global challenges. My goal is to bring strategic growth to international organizations while drawing on the entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability I’ve inherited from my Gujarati background. Long-term, I aspire to take on leadership roles where I can influence global business strategies, bridge cultural divides, and create opportunities that drive sustainable progress.

Q: What is your advice to other online students considering the online MIB program?

Gandhi: I would advise online students to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities the program offers. Engage actively with your professors and peers, even in a virtual setting, because the relationships you build are invaluable. Be proactive about seeking feedback, networking, and participating in events to make the most of your experience. Remember, the MIB program is what you make of it—stay curious and open to learning.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Gandhi: ​​I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and mentorship I’ve received during my time in the MIB program. My journey has been shaped by a blend of my Gujarati heritage and the global perspective I gained at UF. I look forward to applying the lessons I’ve learned here to make a meaningful impact in the business world. Congratulations to my fellow graduates—I am excited to see where our unique paths take us!
