MSM Student Spotlight: Nicole Acosta

Nicole Acosta looks forward to working with KPMG after graduating from the Master of Science in Management (MSM) program next year. As she plans for the future, she reflects on the past that brought her to today.

Q: Tell us about yourself.

Acosta: “My name is Nicole Acosta, and I am in my final year of the Master of Science in Management (MSM) program at the University of Florida. I was born in Colombia and later moved to South Florida, where I developed a love for the ocean. Attending the University of Florida has been a long-standing aspiration of mine, and I am proud to be a Double Gator soon, having completed both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees here.”

Q: Why did you choose the MSM program?

Acosta: “I earned my bachelor’s degree in public relations at the University of Florida, graduating in May 2024 as part of the combined degree program. I chose the MSM program because it offered a comprehensive introduction to the business world, allowing me to broaden my knowledge beyond communications. The opportunity to complete both degrees in just four years was invaluable, and I was drawn to the program’s ability to provide a strong foundation in business principles, even for students without prior professional experience in the field. The program’s national recognition further solidified my decision.”

Q: What do you like most about the MSM program?

Acosta: “What I value most about the MSM program is the dedication of the faculty. The professors are deeply invested in not only our academic success but also our professional development, preparing us for long-term career growth. The resources offered through HireWarrington, such as career workshops and networking opportunities, have been instrumental. Additionally, the diverse perspectives of my peers—each bringing unique professional and cultural experiences—have enhanced my learning experience, offering a richer, more nuanced understanding of the business world.”

Q: What’s next?

Acosta: “I am set to graduate in May 2025. After completing an internship at KPMG this past summer, I was fortunate to receive a full-time offer, which I plan to pursue upon graduation. I look forward to advancing my career, leveraging the skills and experiences I’ve gained through both my academic and professional journeys.”

Q: You joined the MSM program without a background in business. What advice would you offer to students taking a similar track?

Acosta: “The Warrington College of Business offers a transformative experience that allows students to expand their knowledge and gain valuable insights applicable to various aspects of life and career. The business acumen you acquire can enhance any professional field, making it a versatile and indispensable skill set. Being part of the business community at the University of Florida is an extraordinary opportunity that can open countless doors.”
