Fisher School recognizes students, faculty in awards ceremony

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Diana Weng was named the Master of Accounting (MAcc) Student of the Year at the Fisher School of Accounting’s Spring Banquet on April 16 at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center.

The MAcc Student of the Year Award, which is selected by a faculty vote, is the highest honor awarded to a Fisher student.

In addition to her academic achievements, Weng served as Director of Mentor Development for the Heavener School of Business’ Business Undergraduate Mentorship Program (BUMP), Planning Committee Chair for the Fisher School’s Women in Accounting Symposium, Mentor for Beta Alpha Psi, Head Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Managerial Accounting for Professor Debbie Garvin, and provided grading support for Financial Accounting and Reporting 2, Governmental Accounting, and Advanced Accounting. She has also completed internships with Sears Holding Corporation and EY. Weng, who posted a 3.72 GPA at UF, plans on pursuing a Ph.D. in Accounting at the Fisher School.

Cindy Dosch received the Fisher School’s first-ever Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes an accounting student who has displayed outstanding service over the past year. When it was found that UF’s new online course platform was not compatible with the process to upload student grades, Dosch created a system to upload the grades. Dosch’s innovation worked perfectly, and was adopted by the entire College. She also created an online Facebook group to help students more easily contact professors and teaching assistants for help, and reformatted the Fisher School’s virtual office hours to accommodate accounting students taking introductory courses through UF Online.
