Shu He honored among information system's most prolific young scholars.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Assistant Professor Shu He of the University of Florida Warrington College of Business is a recipient of this year’s INFORMS Information Systems Society Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award.
In memory of the late Sandra A. Slaughter, the award honors academics early in their careers for outstanding intellectual contributions to the information systems discipline. Nominees are selected based on a variety of scholarly contributions, including published research that demonstrates intellectual leadership and the potential to make a significant impact on theory, research and practice.
“Receiving this recognition from distinguished committee members in our field highlights the impact of my work and brings visibility to my contributions,” she said. “It’s not just an acknowledgement of past achievements, it’s also a powerful encouragement to keep growing as a researcher, mentor and collaborator.”
He’s research delves into the economics of information systems, emphasizing the impact of emerging technologies on firms and society using econometric analysis, machine learning techniques and randomized field experiment tools. Her work has appeared in premier information systems journals, including a recent study demonstrating how software bugs impact the gaming industry in Information Systems Research and other publications in MIS Quarterly, Production and Operations Management and the Journal of Management Information Systems, and she isn’t planning to slow down anytime soon; He says this award has inspired her to aim even higher in her career.
“This award feels like a meaningful reflection of all the work I’ve done so far,” she said. “It’s a big milestone, a reminder of how far I’ve come and the commitment it’s taken to get here. But more than that, it’s a fresh start – encouraging me to dig even deeper and stay focused as I keep moving forward.”
Shu He is one of four professors carrying on the legacy of Sandra A. Slaughter at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business. PricewaterhouseCoopers ISOM Professor Liangfei Qiu and Walter J. Matherly Anuj Kumar are past awardees, and Associate Professor Emre Demirezen also received the award this year.
In 2022, He also received the ISS Gordon B. Davis Young Scholar Award. Honoring Gordon Davis, a “founding father of the information systems discipline,” the award recognizes promising scholars who are already making remarkable contributions to the field of information systems.
