Four careers in AI and Analytics
The Master of Science in Information Systems and Operations Management (MS-ISOM) program at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business is a STEM-accredited program preparing students for careers with concentrations in data science, information technology, business analytics and supply chain management.
With a 92% placement rate (Spring 2022), MS-ISOM graduates have started careers with companies like Procter & Gamble, NextEra Energy, L3Harris and Bank of America to firms that offer technology consulting like KPMG, RSM, Accenture, Deloitte and Protiviti.
A wide array of companies offer many potential career opportunities. Listed below are four careers that you could pursue with this degree. Many companies offer leadership development programs to MS-ISOM graduates and salaries range from $64,000 – $95,000, with an average of $78,000.
Business Analyst
The Business Analyst gathers and analyzes data, visualizes their findings and provides reporting and recommendations for key business decisions. They work with large data sets, create models and forecasts using tools such as Excel, R, SQL and SAS. Business analysts often work closely with others throughout the business to communicate their work and help implement changes. MS-ISOM graduates have joined companies like Accenture, Citi and Royal Caribbean in this role.
Technology Consultant
A technology consultant works with clients to maximize the value of their technology investment to achieve business objectives. A consultant with a technical background can work with companies on a range of issues from cybersecurity and IT risk management to technology strategy and implementation of new technologies. This role requires knowledge of programming languages like Java and Python, cloud platforms AWS or MS Azure and database platforms such as SQL. Companies including Gartner, Jabil and PwC have hired MS-ISOM graduates for this role.
Data Scientist
This role extracts, manages and analyzes large amounts of data. It relies on business acumen and a knowledge of programming languages such as SAS, Python and R; databases like MySQL predictive modeling and machine learning to answer key business questions. Meta, FIS and Guidehouse have hired MS-ISOM graduates in this role.
Operations Associate
An operations associate is involved in the management of a company’s production of goods or services. This role uses tools like Tableau and statistical analysis for planning and forecasting, along with a knowledge of supply chain management. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to solve daily problems. MS-ISOM graduates have gone into this role at Apple, CSX, and Navy Federal.

When asked what skills potential MS-ISOM students should possess, Warrington associate director of graduate Business Career Services Linda Netherton shared the following.
“A student interested in pursuing an MS-ISOM degree needs to have an interest in and aptitude for technology and critical thinking. But they also need to be able to exhibit and develop softer skills that are required to be successful in business—things like communication and teamwork,” said Netherton. “We help students learn how to identify career opportunities and present themselves effectively to potential employers through individual coaching, workshops and career fairs.”
