MS Marketing Student Spotlight: Simrun Waghray
As a recent graduate of the MS Marketing program, Simrun Waghray (MS Marketing ‘25) plans on traveling the world before starting a position in the marketing analytics field.
Waghray: “My name is Simrun Waghray, and I just graduated from the MSMAR program at UF. Before the program, I worked as a marketing coordinator for a construction company, in which I designed over 30 proposals, qualification packages and presentations to showcase my firm’s skills and win project contracts. After joining the MSMAR program, I got a look into marketing analytics, which I really enjoyed, and I hope to find a position in that field going forward. A more personal goal of mine is to travel as much as I can!”
Q: What was your undergraduate major, and why the MSMAR program?
Waghray: “My undergraduate major was economics, but I found myself more interested in marketing after graduation and worked as a marketing coordinator for 2 years before the MSMAR program. While I gained a lot of experience during this time, I felt like I lacked some technical knowledge. I decided to pursue the MSMAR program to bridge this gap.”
Q: What is the best thing you like about the MSMAR program, and how has the program helped you professionally?
Waghray: “The best thing about the MSMAR program was the ability to pursue the marketing analytics track, alongside traditional marketing courses. I plan to work in a marketing analytics role in the future, and this track gave me insight into the field. I was also able to learn programming languages, like R and Python, which will be helpful in this career path.”
Q: What are your plans now that you have graduated?
Waghray: “Now that I have graduated, I plan to travel for a couple of months before starting a new position in the marketing analytics field. I just went to Boston, and I’ll be leaving for India next!”
Waghray: “My advice to anyone looking at the MSMAR program is to make the most of it! The program is fast paced so it’s important to cater the curriculum to your needs. The program provides both traditional marketing courses and a wide range of elective marketing and business courses. Make sure to choose electives that best align with your career goals.”
Q: Tell us a cool fact about yourself.
Waghray: “When I was at UF for undergrad, I was on a Bollywood-fusion dance team. I also used to run their social media accounts which is part of why I chose to pursue marketing!”
