MS Marketing Student Spotlight: Yiwei Jin
Yiwei Jin graduates next year from the MS Marketing Program at the Hough Graduate School of Business. She shares how the college has impacted her as an international student from China.
Q: What is your background?
Jin: “My name is Yiwei Jin and I am from China. I started my studies at the University of Florida as an undergraduate in Business Administration in 2020. Throughout my undergraduate program, I have found my interest in marketing and a deep attachment to UF, which led me to pursue a master’s degree in marketing at UF.
“China has a diverse culture encompassing 56 ethnicities and I belong to the major Han ethnic group.”
Q: Why did you decide to come to the University of Florida?
Jin: “I chose the University of Florida for its exceptional academic reputation and diverse student community. The university’s commitment to academic excellence and the opportunity to engage with renowned faculty and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds further solidified my decision. Additionally, the appealing climate of Florida made me feel comfortable and convinced me that this would be an ideal environment for personal and professional growth.”
Q: What do you miss from your home country?
Jin: “The things that I miss most in China are my family and friends. It has been years since we last met in China. Particularly as we are approaching the end of the year, many students plan to return to their hometowns for Christmas celebrations with their families. This brings me nostalgia, especially for the traditional Chinese festivals with family gatherings.”
Q: What do you like about living in Gainesville?
Jin: “The best thing I enjoy here is the sense of community. The collaborative environment on campus fosters a profound feeling of belonging. The numerous cultural events provide a friendly atmosphere that makes me feel connected and makes it a perfect place to gain a comprehensive education and cultural experience.”
Q: Tell us a cool fact about yourself.
Jin: “When I was in elementary school, I started to learn three musical instruments and got qualification certificates, which include Pipa, Erhu and piano.”
