MS Marketing Student Spotlight: Zhexin Zhang
Zhexin Zhang is graduating this semester from the MS Marketing program at the Warrington College of Business. After graduating, she looks forward to returning to her home in China.
Q: What is your background?
Zhang: “Hi, I’m Zhexin Zhang. I come from Ankang city, located in the scenic Shaanxi Province of China. Prior to this, I successfully completed my undergraduate studies at the China University of Labor Relations in Beijing, the vibrant capital of China. There, I specialized in Safety Engineering, complemented by a minor in Financial Management.”
Q: Why did you choose to come to the University of Florida?
Zhang: “First and foremost, the university boasts a renowned faculty in the field of Marketing, aligning perfectly with my academic and career aspirations. The vibrant and diverse campus environment also appealed to me, providing ample opportunities for cultural exchange and personal growth. Additionally, the warm climate of Florida was another factor that attracted me.”
Q: What do you miss the most from your home country?
Zhang: “I miss my family; it’s been over a year since I last saw them. I also miss my friends a lot. Despite making wonderful friends here, there’s a special warmth that comes from my old friends. Additionally, I long for the unique flavors of Chinese cuisine. While there are excellent Chinese restaurants in the United States, I still miss the distinctive tastes from my hometown.”
Q: What do you like about living in Gainesville?
Zhang: “Gainesville is a college town, perfect for studying, and I really enjoy the climate here with abundant sunshine throughout the year. I also love the natural beauty in the surrounding areas, including parks and springs. In particular, at Sweetwater Wetlands Park we can see many birds and alligators sunbathing on the banks. Additionally, I’m impressed by the huge bat houses on campus. I appreciate the vibrant campus life here, especially my enjoyment of the football games.”
Q: Tell us a cool fact about yourself.
Zhang: “Living with my family has been my norm, but after studying abroad, I gradually learned to take care of myself comprehensively. This included cooking on my own and even successfully obtaining a driver’s license, allowing me to drive to the supermarket. In the process of pursuing my graduate degree, I distinctly feel that I have become stronger and more independent compared to when I first arrived a year ago. This growth and independence are the most satisfying aspects of my education here, beyond the academic knowledge acquired. When I return to my home country, I look forward to preparing a table of dishes for my family and friends, showcasing the cooking skills I’ve accumulated over the past year. I believe it will be a pleasant surprise for them. I find it pretty cool.”
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
Zhang: “My learning experience at UF will be a precious time in my life.”
