Michael Hernandez Michael Hernandez (MBA ’24) – UF MBA Excel Certification

Q: What made you choose this experience?

I chose to take an Excel class because I recognized the importance of spreadsheet skills in both academic and professional settings. Excel is a versatile tool used for data analysis, project management and financial modeling. I wanted to enhance my proficiency in it to improve my career prospects and be more efficient in my work.

Q: What was something that surprised you?

One of the most surprising aspects of the Excel class was the depth and breadth of the software’s capabilities. I was amazed at how Excel could be used for complex data analysis, from pivot tables and advanced formulae to automation with macros. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by the supportive learning environment and the willingness of instructors to provide one-on-one assistance.

Q: How has this program been impactful for you?

This Excel class has had a significant impact on my professional life. I now feel much more confident in using Excel for tasks such as budgeting, data analysis and creating interactive dashboards. These skills have not only made me more efficient at work but have also opened up new career opportunities. I have been able to take on more data-driven projects and contribute more effectively to my team’s goals.

Q: What advice do you have for students who are considering this program or any other professional development opportunities?

My advice to students considering the Excel class or any other professional development opportunities is to approach them with an open mind and a commitment to learning. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek help when needed. Practice regularly to reinforce your skills, and try to apply what you learn in real-world scenarios. Additionally, networking with instructors and fellow students can be valuable for future career growth. Finally, remember that professional development is an ongoing process, so continue seeking opportunities to enhance your skills throughout your career.

Giacomo Savardi Giacomo Savardi (MBA ’23) – UF MBA Storytelling for Impact

Q: What made you choose this experience?

From the beginning of my time in the UF MBA program, I knew I wanted to come to campus for the optional programming. It was the perfect opportunity to meet my classmates face to face, network with other cohorts and meet the MBA program staff.

Q: What was something that surprised you?

I had a feeling Storytelling for Impact would be a great class. It cemented something I have noticed time and time again in meetings — it doesn’t matter if you’re pitching an engineering analysis or a movie script, the presenter needs to captivate the audience and make them feel invested, make them stakeholders. Storytelling is how this is done.

Q: How has this program been impactful for you?

I always felt like I “overdid it” when it came to explaining the backstory of a problem in my presentations. This class made me realize it was a good hunch and that I should never stop explaining the backstory to my audience.

Q: What advice do you have for students who are considering this program or any other professional development opportunities?

Do it. You’ll never know what to expect, but I can assure you this; going to one of these optional presentations will absolutely be a positive experience and will make you feel more fulfilled in your MBA journey.
