Liangfei Qiu

Information systems and operations management professor recipient of early career award

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dr. Liangfei Qiu, associate professor in the department of information systems and operations management at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business, has been named an awardee of the 2019 Information Systems Society (ISS) Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award

The Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award recognizes and honors early career individuals who are on a path towards making outstanding intellectual contributions to the information systems discipline. The spirit of the award is to honor the memory of the late professor Sandra A. Slaughter, who was tireless in her pursuit of recognizing the potential leaders of the “next generation” of information systems academics.

“I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious award,” Qiu said. “The award means that my work on social media and social networks has been recognized by my field. It inspires me to do more impactful research and to advance our understanding about the economics of information systems.

“My department and the Warrington College of Business give me an excellent research environment, and encourage me to do research that makes a difference.”

To receive the Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award, individuals must have either received their doctorate or started a tenure-track position no earlier than 10 years from the initial call for applicants and not be a full professor. The awards committee looks holistically at the scholarly contributions provided, and considers emerging thematic and high impact research likely to make a significant impact on theory, research or practice, evidence of growing intellectual leadership in the discipline reflected in editorial appointments and other intellectual contributions that provide a platform for future success.

Qiu has been with the Warrington College of Business since 2014. His research interests include economics of information systems, prediction markets, telecommunications networks, and social networks and social media platforms.

Qiu received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He serves on the editorial board of Production and Operations Management as a Senior Editor and Decision Support Systems as an Associate Editor.
