Teaching and Advising Awards honor standout Warrington faculty and advisors.

Three honored with Warrington’s teaching, advising awards

The University of Florida Warrington College of Business recognized faculty members Dr. Michael Mayberry and Dr. Steve Tufts along with advisor Melissa Forgione as its 2019-2020 Teaching/Advising Award winners.

Michael Mayberry: Dr. Mayberry is the Jack Kramer Term Assistant Professor in the Fisher School of Accounting. He received his B.S. and M.Acc. from the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida as well as his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. He teaches graduate courses in taxation, including Federal Income Taxes 1 & 2 and Partnership Accounting. His research interests include organizational form and corporate tax avoidance. He has published in The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, the National Tax Journal, and the Journal of the American Taxation Association. In 2019, he received the Michael Cook Teaching Award from the Fisher School of Accounting. He enjoys working with Ph.D. students and teaching his young daughters new things. 

Steve Tufts: Dr. Tufts is a Clinical Professor in the Marketing Department at the Warrington College of Business, University of Florida.  He teaches sales and marketing classes at both the undergraduate and graduate level and was one of the primary architects of the new Sales Minor, approved in 2019. Additionally, he is a Faculty Advisor in the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation where he offers guidance to emerging UF entrepreneurs. He has a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida, an MBA from the University of Virginia and was a member of the very first University of Florida DBA cohort, receiving his Doctor of Business Administration degree from UF in 2017. His areas of research interest include salesperson performance, salesperson influence, entrepreneurial firm development and entrepreneurial exit.

Melissa Forgione: Melissa Forgione is the Assistant Director of Academic and Career advising for the Heavener School of Business. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Florida, as well as her Master’s and Specialist in Education with a major in Mental Health Counseling. She has been with the Heavener School of Business for over six years now. Before that, she worked as a graduate student in the Career Connections Center. In her time with Heavener, not only has she advised students one-on-one, but she has overseen the Second Year Success Seminar, been liaison with Innovation Academy, and taught Warrington Welcome, including creating a fully online version for our PaCE students. Over the past year, she has partnered with another advisor to create the Heavener Peer Advising program.
