Accounting honors society achieves superior status

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the eighth year in a row, the Upsilon chapter of accounting honors society Beta Alpha Psi at the University of Florida has achieved superior status.

The Upsilon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an international honor organization for financial information students and professionals, has continued the superior trend thanks to the efforts of its officers from the Fisher School of Accounting at the Warrington College of Business.

“Our officers and members all worked hard to achieve our goal, and we feel relieved and happy that we can continue our legacy as a superior chapter,” the Upsilon officers said.

The officers – President Yang Zhao (BSAc, MAcc ’24), Vice-President Yuan Tian (BSAc, MAcc ’24), Historian Jordan Bouchner (BSAc, MAcc ’25), Reporting Secretary Ethan May (BSAc ’23), Treasurer Isabella Corcino (BSAc, MAcc ’24) and Reporter Andrew Diers (BSAc, MAcc ’23) – had to work especially hard to overcome challenges posed by the pandemic.

“The COVID-19 pandemic smacked us pretty hard, since the small number of accounting students at UF became even smaller when many stayed home,” the officers said. “Professor Singh worked overtime with our officers during the COVID years to keep our chapter running. We just continued to build on their foundation by reaching out to students through events like Business Bash and advertising through the Fisher School’s weekly newsletter.”

Earning superior status despite the challenges of the pandemic is a testament of the chapter’s work to go above and beyond the society’s mission for professional development and academic excellence. The chapter’s meetings are open to all students in the finance, information systems and accounting programs, with dinner provided at every meeting.

“We’re looking to build a community of professionals and introduce firms to our members on a more personal level,” the officers said. “Being a part of an honor society is a great way to distinguish yourself in a competitive environment.”
