College mourns the loss of alumnus and supporter C. Howard McNulty
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – With sadness, the Warrington College of Business shares the loss of C. Howard McNulty, alumnus and Warrington College of Business supporter. McNulty passed away on March 28 at the age of 86.
Originally from Melbourne, Florida, McNulty received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida in 1957 and his JD from the UF Levin College of Law in 1964.
During his time at UF, McNulty was the chairman of Gator Growl, played varsity baseball, was a member of Florida Blue Key and was later inducted into the UF Hall of Fame. Additionally, he was president of Sigma Nu and president of the legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi.
After practicing law with U.S. Senator Lawton Chiles, McNulty had a long career in the banking industry, including as Chairman of Florida State Bank in Sanford, President and Vice Chairman of Flagship Banks in Miami and Vice Chairman and Director of SunBank in Orlando. He played a key role in the merger between Flagship Banks and SunBank prior to co-founding Enterprise Bank of Winter Park. He served as Chairman and President of Enterprise Bank until his retirement in 1994.
McNulty was a passionate supporter of the University of Florida, funding scholarships for students across the Warrington College of Business, from its MBA program to undergraduate students interested in studying abroad.
It was the University of Florida that brought McNulty and his wife of 64 years, Sylvia Maxwell, together. The two met while alphabetically seated next to each other in a humanities class. The couple had four children, Thad McNulty, Laure Bartholomew, Paul McNulty and Shannon Hardington as well as 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
