It all adds up to love
In March of 1998, Adrienne Figur (BSAc, MAcc ’98) was just a few months away from completing her master’s degree in accounting. She had a successful summer internship at Ernst & Young’s tax practice under her belt and an offer for a full-time position in the company’s New York City office.
While Adrienne thought she was going to begin her career in the Big Apple, that quickly changed when she met Randy Figur (BA ’92) at a bar mitzvah the spring before she graduated. Even though Randy was already based in Atlanta as part of National Distributing Company’s Executive Training Program, Adrienne was undeterred from pursuing a life with him.
“I took a risk and re-interviewed for my position at Ernst & Young in Atlanta, and the rest is history,” Adrienne said.
The couple was engaged soon after Adrienne got the job in EY’s Atlanta office. They married on June 6, 1999 and celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary last year.
Over the past two decades, the Figurs have supported each other through multiple promotions – Adrienne making Partner at EY in 2011 and now serving as U.S. Central Region Leader for Tax and Finance Operations Services, as well as leading EY’s UF campus recruitment efforts as the Atlanta Tax Campus Coordinator, and Randy, after spending two years with National Distributing Company, working his way up from Head of Corporate Sales to President at Superior Uniform Group’s Sope Creek and now serving as VP of National Accounts for HPI – all while raising two daughters, Hailey, a freshman at George Washington University, and Jordyn, a high school junior who has her sights set on being a member of UF’s Class of 2025.
In their free time, Adrienne and Randy enjoy running, traveling and, most importantly, supporting the Gators together. The couple are fiercely passionate about their Gator pride, from tailgating religiously on campus during home games to cheering on the team in their Gator-themed basement when they can’t make it to Gainesville.
The Figurs’ passion for the university extends beyond making the trip from Atlanta to Gainesville during the football season. Adrienne and Randy also show their love by giving back to students at the Fisher School of Accounting, having recently named a study room in Gerson Hall and Adrienne serving as a Fisher School Advisory Board member.
“The University has given so much to us personally and professionally – we give back in hopes that others, both students and alumni, will feel the same and carry on the legacy,” they said. “The University is a special place where so many can thrive. We want others to recognize the amazing attributes of UF, embark on their studies there, and be willing to give back in time, research and passion.
“We truly are those people from the commercial – wherever we are, whenever we see others sporting their Gator pride, we absolutely say ‘Go Gators!’”
