Four students recognized for leadership and service at Heavener leaders awards banquet

The Heavener School of Business inducted two new students into the Heavener Hall of Fame and awarded two students the Distinction in Leadership and Service Award at its annual Heavener leaders awards banquet, called the Heavener Gator Globes.  

Homar Ali-Maria and Luke Carter were the latest Heavener students to be installed into the Heavener Hall of Fame. Kitan Adeniji and Shannon Sawtell were the newest recipients of the Distinction in Leadership and Service Award.

The Heavener Hall of Fame is reserved for undergraduate business students who have shown truly superior leadership and achievement through their activities and scholarship while members of the College community. Eligible students must have a minimum 3.5 UF GPA and be in good standing with UF. Students are also judged on scholarship, campus leadership, campus involvement and service to the College or UF.

The Distinction in Leadership and Service Award is presented to students who demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the College through participation in student organizations and other extracurricular activities. The students have demonstrated a strong commitment to the College and made a significant positive impact on its students.

Ali-Maria earned his undergraduate degree in accounting and will complete his master’s in accounting this year. Upon graduation, Ali-Maria will join KPMG US as a deal advisory associate. Previously, he interned at KPMG US as a deal advisory and strategy intern. In his time at Heavener, Ali-Maria served as a project manager of data and technology and co-executive director of Warrington Diplomats and mentor and director of internal communications for the UF Business Undergraduate Mentorship Program. 

Carter will complete his undergraduate degree in finance this year. He will be joining McKinsey & Company as a business analyst. During his time in the College, Carter has served as a UF Undergraduate Career and Peer Mentor as well as director of operations, vice president and president of the University of Florida Undergraduate Consulting Club. He previously was a project management intern at Northrop Gruman in Melbourne, Fla.

Adeniji earned her undergraduate degree in business administration and will complete her master’s in international business this year. She has completed internships with Aldi and Legal Action Group based in London. During her time at Warrington, she served as a student mentor for the UF Business Undergraduate Mentorship Program, a study abroad peer advisor for the University of Florida International Center and a teaching assistant for the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.  

Sawtell earned her undergrad in marketing and will complete her master’s in marketing this year. She has completed internships at HP as a sustainability intern in supply chain operations and AMS markets and at TEDxUF as partnerships coordinator and director of partnerships and finance. At Warrington, she served as executive director and outreach and communications director for #UNLITTER, judge and team captain for the University of Florida Sales Competition Team and as a teaching assistant for the College of Business.
