ISOM associate professor honored for early career achievements
Emre Demirezen stands out for his contributions to information systems academia.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Associate Professor Emre Demirezen of the University of Florida Warrington College of Business is a recipient of the 2024 INFORMS Information Systems Society Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award.
In memory of the late Sandra A. Slaughter, the award honors academics early in their careers for outstanding intellectual contributions to the information systems discipline. Nominees are selected based on a variety of scholarly contributions, including published research that demonstrates intellectual leadership and the potential to make a significant impact on theory, research and practice.
“I am incredibly honored and grateful to receive the INFORMS Information Systems Society Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award,” he said. “This award is a meaningful recognition, celebrating the commitment and dedication I’ve put into advancing our field and exploring its impact on both academic research and practical applications.”
Demirezen’s research contributes to platform performance, sustainability and participation dynamics in healthcare information systems and online platforms. In healthcare, his work identifies how health information exchange can drive cost savings and improved care outcomes, leading to fewer redundant tests and improved outpatient care. In online platforms, his research has brought insight on how platforms can sustain engagement, focusing on strategies for balancing user contributions with economic incentives.
“This award is a milestone in my career, acknowledging my journey and the supportive network of mentors, colleagues and co-authors who have encouraged my growth,” he said. “It is especially significant as it commemorates the legacy of the late Professor Sandra A. Slaughter, who dedicated her career to fostering the development of future information systems leaders. Being connected to her mission and vision through this award is a humbling experience.”
In both avenues of research, Demirezen employs diverse methodologies such as artificial intelligence, analytics, machine learning, game theory and econometrics to provide actionable insight for academia and industry. He seeks to bridge theory and practice through his continued contributions and carry on Slaughter’s legacy by cultivating the next generation of information systems academics.
Emre Demirezen is one of four professors carrying on the legacy of Sandra A. Slaughter at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business. PricewaterhouseCoopers ISOM Professor Liangfei Qiu and Walter J. Matherly Anuj Kumar are past awardees, and Assistant Professor Shu He also received the award this year.
