Warrington student named Business Ethics Ambassador of the Year
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ria Shah was named the 2017-2018 Business Ethics Ambassador of the Year.
The Business Ethics Ambassador of the Year award is given to a Business Ethics Ambassador who demonstrates and positively promotes ethical decision making and leadership skills.
“Being chosen from my peers as the Business Ethics Ambassador (BEA) of the year is a great honor for which I am truly grateful,” Shah said. “I have never felt more at home than when I joined the Business Ethics Ambassadors and made the Poe Business Ethics Center a big part of my life. To be an ambassador of ethics, I made it a goal to not only spread awareness of ethics to the business school but also other organizations and groups on and off campus. I owe much of my personal and professional growth to the BEAs and the Poe Center.”
Shah (BSBA-Marketing ’17, MIB ’18) has served as the Vice President and the Director of Marketing for the Business Ethics Ambassadors. During her time as the Director of Marketing, she helped start the Poe Center Newsletter, which is sent out once a month. This newsletter is intended to keep supporters, donors and the UF campus, up to date on Poe Center events and about ethical dilemmas occurring in the business world. This initiative is now a permanent addition to the Poe Center.
“Ria has been a tremendous leader for the Business Ethics Ambassadors,” said Dr. Brian Ray, Director of the Poe Business Ethics Center and Lecturer of Leadership and Ethics. “She has inspired her peers to focus greater attention on ethics education beyond just the Warrington College of Business. I am confident that Ria will make a significant impact on the ethical culture of the company she plans to join. What a tremendous addition she will be for her colleagues!”
Shah also had the opportunity to be the liaison/emcee for a Discussion Panel event that the Center of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Poe Center and UF Digital Worlds partnered for to discuss Ethics in Entrepreneurship in Gainesville. As Vice President of the Business Ethics Ambassadors, she initiated a new way to have ethical discussions on topics during the weekly meetings, along with helping facilitate any event the Poe Center was presenting or hosting the innumerable number of speakers the Poe Center brought. Shah will be graduating from the University of Florida in the spring of 2018 with her Master of International Business.
