IEEE Spectrum | Worm-like robots install power lines underground
Public Utility Research Center Director of Energy Studies Ted Kury shares his insights on underground power lines, which could be installed thanks to a self-propelled robotic sleeve that mimics earthworms’ characteristic peristaltic movement to advance through soil.
“The peristaltic conduit approach is fascinating [and] certainly seems to be addressing concerns regarding the sheer variety of underground obstacles,” he said.
