Information systems and operations management professor receives two awards for excellence in research

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dr. Liangfei Qiu, assistant professor in the department of information systems and operations management at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business, received not one, but two awards for distinction in research. Qiu received both the UF Excellence Award for Assistant Professors and the Best Information Systems Research Reviewer Award.

The UF Excellence Award for Assistant Professors is awarded to a junior faculty member for their excellence in research. Specifically, it is awarded to assistant professors who have a distinguished current research program that places them among the leaders in their discipline and demonstrate an active current research program that leads to continuing distinction in their field. Qiu is the first professor from the Warrington College of Business to receive the award.

“I was thrilled and deeply honored when I was first told about the award,” Qiu said. “I know the award is very prestigious and is awarded annually to only ten assistant professors among all UF assistant professors. I am excited that my research in information systems was recognized.

“More importantly, receiving this award encourages me to dig deeper into my current research streams on the transformational role of information technology and digitalization. Also, receiving this award reminds me that I have received tremendous support from my colleagues, which inspires me to continue my research and move my career forward. I have benefited greatly from the excellent research environment of my department and school.”

The Best Information Systems Research Reviewer Award is given by the Information Systems Research (ISR) journal, a top journal in the field of information systems. ISR senior and associate editors vote for the winner based on high-quality developmental reviews of multiple manuscripts by candidates.

“I am happy that I can contribute to our academic community,” Qiu said. “A key component of the academic peer review process is the quality of reviews. I am excited that my service is recognized by a top journal in our field.”

Qiu has been with the Warrington College of Business since 2014. His research interests include economics of information systems, prediction markets, telecommunications networks, and social networks and social media platforms.

Qiu received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He serves on the editorial board of Production and Operations Management as a Senior Editor and Decision Support Systems as an Associate Editor.
