Sonia Singh named 2025 Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Faculty Advisor
Sonia Singh, Davis Family Faculty Fellow and Instructional Associate Professor in the Fisher School of Accounting, is among the 2025 honorees of the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award. The annual award honors faculty advisors who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to their chapters and to the professional development of their students.
Singh has served as the faculty advisor for Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), the accounting honor society, since 2016. Recipients of the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award are first nominated by student chapters and then selected by faculty chapter advocates.
“As an alumna of the Upsilon Chapter of BAP at UF, BAP holds a special place for me,” Singh said. “I first became involved with BAP when I was a student, and I am grateful to be able to continue my involvement as faculty advisor. I’ve worked hard as the faculty advisor to share my enthusiasm and passion with the students, and it has been a wonderful experience being able to see the students grow and accomplish so much.”
In her role as faculty advisor, Singh provides strategic guidance and support to student officers, ensuring that the chapter meets the high standards set by both the University and the national Beta Alpha Psi organization. With Singh’s guidance, UF’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter has maintained Gold Chapter status, an honor awarded to chapters that demonstrate excellence in service, professional development and member engagement.
UF’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter has grown significantly with Singh as faculty advisor, from around 15 active members in 2020 to over 150 today, thanks to her assistance in restructuring the chapter’s finances, redesigning its website and providing mentorship as the chapter worked to rebuild community and engagement during the pandemic.
“While the credit for this growth belongs largely to the outstanding leadership and innovation of our student officers, I hope that my contributions have played a meaningful role in supporting and empowering their success,” she said.
Outgoing UF Beta Alpha Psi President Brianna Alvarez (MAcc ‘25) nominated Singh after realizing how much she did behind the scenes to keep the chapter running smoothly.
“She was very helpful in brainstorming ideas and supporting the incoming e-board, while still giving us full autonomy to lead,” Alvarez said. “When Professor Singh told me she had won the award, I was so excited—she truly deserves it. She’s incredibly humble but puts so much time into supporting our chapter, and it’s really meaningful to see that recognized by others as well.”
Alvarez noted that Singh’s guidance has helped the organization create a chapter culture that balances social connections, service events and professional growth.
“She encouraged us to host engaging events like game nights and ice cream socials, while also helping us strengthen relationships with top recruiters—including all the Big 4 and several industry firms,” Alvarez said. “Thanks to her guidance, Beta Alpha Psi has become one of the most active student organizations at the Fisher School.”
