Permission to Screw Up Permission to Screw Up by Kristen Hadeed

“Written by a UF Business Gator alumna, Permission to Screw Up is an inspiring, humorous and brutally honest recollection of the first years of a local Gainesville, Florida start up called Student Maids. Kristen Hadeed started a cleaning business at first just to be able to buy a pair of designer jeans and fund her spring break.  What happened next was sheer genius! Kristen managed to get students to take on the not so glamorous job of cleaning up after strangers and grew her staff at one point from 4 to 60 employees in a month! With no experience necessary, the company required a solid GPA and stressed accountability and trust. Student Maid grew exponentially in the months to follow and became a dream start up. Until one day when almost the entire staff quit on the same day and the same time. Permission to Screw Up is about how to grow a thriving business and also how to survive the hard times. It’s a story about showing compassion for your colleagues and building trust! Kristen shares how she learned through trial by fire how to be an effective leader and excel despite the “messy” challenges of growing a business.”

Risk Less and Prosper Risk Less and Prosper: Your Guide to Safer Investingby Zvi Bodie

“I generally encourage all of my students to read Risk Less and Prosper by Zvi Bodie. Zvi is more skeptical of investing in the stock market than the average commentator. I find his advice to purchase I-bonds and TIPs to hedge inflation and ensure low-risk purchasing power in retirement to be very convincing.”

How Champions Think How Champions Think by Dr. Bob Rotella

“Prior to retiring, Dr. Bob Rotella was the head of the Sports Psychology Department at the University of Virginia. Originally, he made his mark by coaching a long list of successful PGA Touring professionals including names such as David Love III, Brad Faxon, Nick Price, Paul Azinger, Fred Funk and Tom Kite. Later, he worked with athletes from other sports as well as major corporate clients. His coaching is not targeted toward athleticism but rather the thinking that leads to success. For example, he teaches us to learn to love the process of mastery. Said another way, he has found that the most successful champions learn to love the drudgery and repetition of the practice that is required in order to master the fundamentals. I have read all of his books. This is clearly my favorite book of his and might possibly be my favorite book of all time.”

– Dr. Steve Tufts, Clinical Professor, Department of Marketing.
