The Nathan S. Collier Master of Science in Real Estate gave me an educational purpose

Clayton Robinson

By Clayton Robinson, BSBA ’19, MSRE ’20

When I was accepted into the University of Florida and began my college career here, I knew very little about what this experience would look like or what I wanted to pursue for my future career. Everyone I spoke to would always say, “You are so young and have so much time to figure things out,” but when you are the one experiencing it and are directly in the process, it doesn’t feel that way.

My true interest coming into college had always been real estate but unfortunately when I got here, I was told there was no real estate major. With that being said, my next plan was to pursue a real estate minor. While taking a real estate analysis course for my minor, I learned about the prestigious Nathan S. Collier Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) program, and from that point on I found my academic purpose.

The MSRE program provided me with the close-knit family feeling at a school that I didn’t think was possible, considering the school population of over 50,000 students. This was an experience and feeling that my classes at the undergraduate level never provided me.

After being accepted into the MSRE program, you are introduced to fellow members and meet the wonderful MSRE staff. The staff explains the full process to you right away so that you are aware of everything you are signing up for. Like Kelley A. Bergstrom Real Estate Center Director Mr. Tim Becker likes to say, “You are signing up for two full time jobs.” Although that can sound ominous, it is nothing that a diligent and committed student can’t handle. Every professor in the MSRE program is there to help you in any way possible and gives every student their utmost attention.

Although the faculty is amazing and a huge part of the experience of the MSRE program, the family you create is really with your fellow classmates. From the first day, you meet with colleagues with very similar motivations and interests. It gives you friends to study with, learn from and grow with. Through my first semester as an MSRE student, I have grown extremely close with my fellow students and loved to watch them grow and progress not only as students but as young business men and women. Having people to learn and grow with makes the process of the MSRE program that much sweeter.
