Fisher students win regional case competition

A team of Fisher School of Accounting students won the regional competition for the 19th annual Deloitte FanTAXtic National Case Study Competition.

Carson Goodman, Madison O’Brien, Jensine Varghese, Jackson Weisbrot and Rebecca Witschel advanced to the national competition, which will be held on January 17-19, 2020 at Deloitte University — located just outside of Dallas, Texas. The students were tasked with advising the owners of a technology start-up company on the most tax efficient manner in which to structure their new venture.

“By all accounts, the team’s presentation was outstanding,” said Dr. Michael Schadewald, who served in a minor advisory role for the students. “The team’s performance was even more amazing when you consider that three of the five team members were only first-semester sophomores.”

The Fisher School students make up one of nine teams that will participate in the national competition, which will take place in a similar format. This is the first time the Fisher School has competed in the national championship since 2016, when it finished in second place.
