Student Spotlight: Brian Hoh

Dr. Brian Hoh recently returned to the classroom after more than 20 years to pursue his Executive MBA at the UF Warrington College of Business. Dr. Hoh discusses his role as a professor of neurosurgery at UF Health and what he hopes to gain from the Executive MBA program.

Q: Tell us about your background and your career path.

A: I double majored at Stanford University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. I then went on to complete medical school at Columbia University and did my neurosurgery residency and fellowship at Harvard University. I came to work at UF in 2006 right after training and have been here ever since.

 

Q: Can you tell us about what you do at UF Health?

A: I am a professor of neurosurgery at UF. I specialize in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery. I am associate chair of the department of neurosurgery and chief of the division of cerebrovascular surgery. I take care of patients, perform research, and teach residents and fellows.

 

Q: Why did you decide to pursue neurosurgery?

A: I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my mentors. I greatly admired and looked up to my mentors, and to this day, have emulated my mentors at each stage of my career.

 

Q: What do you like most about your position?

A: The ability to help patients and make a difference in their lives. I also get to perform research to lead to new discoveries, train the next generation of neurosurgeons, and get to lead a team of talented, bright people.

 

Q: Are you involved with any professional organizations?

A: I’m involved in a number of professional organizations including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Academy of Neurological Surgery, Society of Neurological Surgeons, Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, Joint Cerebrovascular Section, American Heart Association and Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

 

Q: Why did you decide to enroll in the Executive MBA program?

A: I want to learn new skills that will enable me to lead more effectively.

 

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: I enjoy spending time with my family and playing golf.
