Leigh Smadbeck was given the University of Florida’s Professional Advisor of the Year Award

Heavener advisor receives UF Advising Award

Leigh Smadbeck, Academic Advisor and Career Coach at the Heavener School of Business, received the University of Florida’s Professional Advisor of the Year Award. UF hosted a reception announcing the winners on April 6.

She also received the 2016-2017 Undergraduate Advising Award for the Warrington College of Business before receiving the honor at the University level.

Smadbeck joined the Heavener School’s Academic Advising & Career Coaching team in 2014, and has made outstanding contributions to the advising team’s effectiveness. She was recognized for her profound impact on students and innovative approach to advising. Since joining the team in 2014, Smadbeck has held approximately 5,423 individual advising sessions.

She was instrumental in planning the Heavener School’s first Human Library event for first-year students, and she served as the primary advisor for business students in the PaCE program, establishing best practices for advising online students transitioning to campus.
