Alba selected for UF Research Foundation Professorship
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – James W. Walter Eminent Scholar Chair Dr. Joe Alba was one of 33 University of Florida faculty members awarded a UF Research Foundation Professorship for 2014-17.
This is the second time Dr. Alba has received this distinction (2005).
UFRF Professorships are awarded to tenured faculty members who have a distinguished current record of research that places them among the leaders in their discipline, and an active current research program that is likely to lead to continuing distinction in their field. Candidates, who are nominated by their Department Chairs, are judged on criteria such as publication in leading scholarly journals in the field, monographs or other scholarly works, citation analysis, awards in their field, evidence of consistent external funding and evidence of development of intellectual property.
The professorship includes a $5,000 annual salary supplement and a one-time $3,000 grant.
Dr. Alba instructs graduate courses on marketing management and product development and management. He has been a professor at the Warrington College of Business Administration since 1981.
Dr. Alba is a Fellow of the Association for Consumer Research (2009), the American Psychological Association (2003) and the Society for Consumer Psychology (2003)—one of only six scholars to hold that title in all three organizations. He is a recipient of the American Marketing Association’s Paul D. Converse Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to marketing scholarships, the Journal of Marketing’s Louis Stern Award (2005) and the Sheth Foundation/Journal of Consumer Research Award (2008). Dr. Alba is also a two-time recipient of the Journal of Consumer Research Outstanding Article Award (1987 and 2003), and has received 20 Outstanding Teacher Awards in UF MBA’s Traditional and Working Professional Programs.
Additionally, Dr. Alba has served on the editorial boards of marketing’s top journals including the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Marketing.
Dr. Alba received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Albany-SUNY in 1976, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Temple University in 1981.
