Second annual Heavener International Case Competition a success
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Heavener International Case Competition honored Corvinus University of Budapest as the winner of the second annual event that took place from February 5-11, 2017.
Corvinus emerged out of a 20-team field that traveled to Gainesville from all over the world to compete. Joining them in the top four were Singapore Management University (second place), Nanyang Technological University (third place) and University of New South Wales (fourth place). Asia, Canada, Europe, Oceania and the United States were all represented by teams participating in the competition.
Teams consisted of four students, each required to be a full-time undergraduate student of the participating school and majoring in a business discipline. Teams are split into four divisions, and the competition is split into two rounds. The first round consists of a six-hour case while the second round uses a 30-hour case. The first-place winner from each division moved into the finals.
The event also gave students from across the world a chance to experience life in Florida. Many of the participants took a trip south to Walt Disney World thanks to a scholarship from Disney Internships and Programs. Teams also experienced a Gator scavenger hunt around the University of Florida campus, a Super Bowl party at First Magnitude Brewing Company and a t-shirt swap with other teams.
After years of wanting to host a competition, the Heavener School of Business hosted the event for the first time in 2016, which was won by Queensland University of Technology (Australia).
