Four among winners of Warrington’s teaching, advising awards
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Congratulations are in order for the four winners of the 2020-2021 Warrington College of Business Teaching/Advising Awards. Dr. David Ling is the recipient of the Graduate Teaching Award and Carly Escue is the recipient of the Graduate Advising Award. On the undergraduate side, Keisha Hunte is the recipient of the Undergraduate Advising Award and Siân Morgan is the recipient of the Undergraduate Teaching Award.
David Ling: Dr. Ling is the Ken and Linda McGurn Professor of Real Estate and the Director of the Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) program in the Eugene F. Brigham Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate at the University of Florida. Professor Ling teaches courses in commercial real estate finance and investment at the graduate level as well as the first undergraduate real estate course. He has been awarded more than a half dozen teaching awards during his time at UF. Professor Ling’s research has been published in general interest finance journals, leading field journals in finance and economics, as well as the leading real estate focused journals. His textbook (co-authored with Wayne Archer) titled Real Estate Principles: A Value Approach (6th ed.) is the most widely used principles of real estate textbook at universities that offer at least a four-year undergraduate degree. In 2011, Professor Ling was the recipient of the George Bloom Award, presented annually by the Directors of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association for “outstanding contributions to the field of real estate academics.” In 2010, he was awarded the David Ricardo Medal by the American Real Estate Society “in recognition of research productivity and influence over a twenty-year period.” Professor Ling holds an MBA in finance and Ph.D. in real estate and economics from the Ohio State University.
Carly Escue: Before joining the Business Career Services team in 2018, Escue’s private sector background included roles in Corporate HR (ExxonMobil, General Electric), international education (South Korea, Russia) and digital marketing. She is a 2015 graduate of UF’s full-time MBA program and was among the program’s first winners of the Poets and Quants National “MBAs to Watch” Award. Escue holds a bachelor’s degree from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. As an advisor and career coach, Escue is passionate about guiding Warrington students as they prepare for their dream careers. Since joining the Business Career Services office, she has coached students enrolled in a range of Specialized Masters programs and MBA formats. In her current role, she coaches full-time MBA students in pursuit of full-time roles and internships. Escue is known for setting high expectations for her students, partnering closely with them to establish goals and outline tangible action plans for achieving them. Recently, one of her former students described her as having “radically transformed [his] professional life and renewed [his] hope for the future.” Escue currently leads a team of three Career Coaches in her role as Director of the Graduate Business Career Services office.
Keisha Hunte: Hunte is in her fourth year as an Academic & Career Advisor in the Heavener School of Business (HSB). Passionate about student success, she makes concerted efforts to enhance the experience of prospective, incoming and continuing “Business Gators”. To date, Hunte has assisted 4,200+ students in areas of personal growth, academic planning/registration, and professional development across multiple advising platforms. Typically in fall semesters, she teaches Introduction to Business/Warrington Welcome, aiding first-year students on their journey of self-exploration and ownership of “The Four Pillars.” From summers 2018 through 2020, Hunte organized and co-facilitated the HSB Freshman Preview College Sessions, where over 3,000 students and families were presented with “The Heavener Road to Success”, a pathway for student learning, engagement and awareness of the plethora of Heavener programs and opportunities. From fall 2017 to summer 2020, she was the point-person for PaCE Business Gators, primarily supporting this special student population from admission to transition. Hunte possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, minor in Africana Studies and Master of Social Work with a specialization in Student Community Development from Stony Brook University in New York. Though a native New Yorker, she is proud to call Gainesville her new home. GO GATORS!
Siân Morgan: Professor Morgan is a Lecturer in the Marketing Department at the Warrington College of Business. She teaches two undergraduate marketing courses: Consumer Behavior and Marketing Management. She received her BComm from the University of Victoria in Canada and her MBA and MSc in Consumer Behavior from the University of Florida. In 2015, after her first semester of teaching, she received the Ph.D. Teaching Award from the Warrington College of Business. Her research interests include consumer expertise and variety, and in 2019, she co-authored an article that was published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology. She lives in Gainesville with her husband and two young children, and in her free time enjoys running, hiking, skiing, kayaking and international travel.
