Management faculty named 2024 UF Research Foundation Professor
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Klodiana Lanaj, Martin L. Schaffel Professor in the Department of Management, is among the 34 University of Florida professors honored as the most productive and promising faculty named UF Research Foundation (UFRF) Professors for 2024.
The recognition goes to faculty who have a distinguished current record of research and a strong research agenda that is likely to lead to continuing distinction in their fields. After being nominated by their department chairs, UFRF Professors are recommended by their college deans based on a personal statement and an evaluation of their recent research accomplishments as evidenced by publication in scholarly journals, external funding, honors and awards, development of intellectual property and other measures appropriate to their field of expertise.
“It feels wonderful being recognized for my research on leadership,” Lanaj shared. “I am passionate about the impact that my work is having on leaders in all walks of life, and it brings me joy to see that this work is appreciated by my colleagues at UF as well. I am also honored to join the other Warrington faculty who have won this award in the past.”
Lanaj’s research focuses on better understanding and facilitating leader effectiveness and wellbeing. She studies interventions, mindsets, and behaviors that enable leaders to thrive at work and at home. In related streams of research, she also examines leadership structures that facilitate team success, and behaviors and mindsets that help and/or harm employee performance and wellbeing.
In her latest work, Lanaj is investigating how the home environment and the deep connections that we build with our loved ones enrich the working lives of leaders in ways that better their performance and that of their units. For example, one of her recent papers reflects on how gratitude received from family can make for better leaders.
Lanaj’s research efforts have been acknowledged throughout her career. Most recently, she received the Academy of Management Organizational Behavior Division’s Cummings Early to Mid-Career Scholarly Achievement Award, which recognizes scholarly achievement of an early- to mid-career scholar. In 2019, she received the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIPO) Distinguished Early Career Contributions Science Award. She was also listed among the 2020 Top 30 Management Thinkers to Watch by Thinkers50 Radar and was awarded as the Best Reviewer by the Academy of Management Journal in 2017.
Most recently, Lanaj served as an Associate Editor at the Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes journal from 2021-2024. She currently serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes and Personnel Psychology.
